Illustration > "The Shutdown" video game!

My friend Helen Roinioti and me, we are working on a 2D point & click video game that it's called The Shutdown.

The Shutdown is still in a very-early stage of pre-production (we pitch it in the Game Idea competition by HGDA some days ago) but we are really enthusiastic about it.

We made a tumblr site for it, in order to keep it updated as the process goes on...

Feel free to send us your feedback (you can also download the PDF presentation of The Shutdown from there).

Process > Behind the scenes on FLIX's 1st year anniversary!

I was asked by FLIX, to create something for their 1st year anniversary, so I came up with the idea of making a homage poster for the site, based on Mike Mills' "Beginners" movie poster (I'm a huge fan! FLIX is too!).

You can see the final piece on the post by flix.gr (among 4 other designers) or on my official website.

I knew right form the start that I had to start with the handmade typography on this one. I spent a lot on time on this, working on many A4 papers with brush calligraphy treatments.

After hours, I chose with of the samples were good for the project.

I went with the one in the left-bottom corner.

Afterwards, it was time to work on the illustrations with the Pen Tool on illustrator CS5. Below you can see some details of the final piece.

The shadow on the background was edited on Photoshop CS5.

Thanks for reading this!

Illustration > Baby's room, 20.02.2011!

I was commissioned by my friend & fellow designer Thodoris Manolopoulos, to do an illustration on the walls of the room by his new-born baby girl (OMG, she's sooooo cute!!!).

I did the sketch in illustrator and a couple days ago (last week) i did the pencil on the walls.

Today, was color-day! I spend almost 8 hours, in order to do the castle, the sun, the 2-colored clouds, half of the lake/boat & half of the rainbow (4 out of 7 colors).

Next week I will upload how the project is going! :)

Illustration & Process > Dimitris Kanellopoulos (b-positive.gr) portrait!

One my best friends, Dimitris Kanellopoulos (his brand-new site is up on the net: www.b-positive.gr), had his name-day yesterday. Since he requested not to buy for him any presents, I thought that it will be nice to make a portrait of him (the one I did for him a couple of month ago, @ velvet festival was kind of crappy), using traditional materials such as pencils (the illustration above, is the final one, scanned).

For photo-reference I found a photo of him that I took in 2008 while we were on a trip to Tokyo, Japan. I think it's a classic b-positive photo (and I especially like the look that has in it).

It's been ages seen I work with traditional materials on an illustration. I did the portrait with a 5H Faber-Castell pencil. I wanted to do the color with watercolors but I couldn't find my watercolors-set, so I proceed to do the color with colored-pencils.

In order to give a contemporary look to the portrait, each line that was done with the 5H pencil, was drawn again with a colored-pencil (for example, the lines of the skin were re-drawn with a red-pencil, the lines of the coat were re-drawn with a green-pencil e.t.c.).

And this a picture that shows how the final present to Dimitris looks like (the frame is from IKEA :D)! Glad that you like it Mitso! :D

Process >>> 2-page comic for a Sci-fi festival @ Syros island, curated by "9" magazine of Eleftherotypia!

Last night I worked on a 2-page comic for a Sci-fi festival that will take place on October (this is the 3rd exhibition in October that I'm taking part in) @ Syros island. The comic exhibition of the festival is curated by "9" magazine of Eleftherotypia newspaper. Here are some photos of the process (right now I'm working on the color + text of the comic... when It's done, I'll post a picture of how the final piece looks like, without the typo thought).

(It's been a while since I last drew a comic, except the ones for my "mixtape" series @ FREE magazine... good to be back! Feels great!) :D
